[When John clicks on the feed today, he's accompanied by not one, but two Lopunnies. The One of them (Casey, judging by the pink sweater) is half-cradling the other and stroking its head, occasionally making shhh'ing noises. A Shinx lays next to them, and in John's lap rests the head of the saddest looking shiny Gallade you'll ever see. John himself looks exhausted, though moreso in the emotional sense than the sense of needing to take a nap.]

[He stares at the screen blankly for a good minute before finally speaking, in a voice that sounds as dull and tired as he looks.]

Vriska Serket has gone back home. If any of her Pokemon found their way to you, please let me know. I want to make sure they're all accounted for. And if they did just...promise me that you will take good care of them.

[He falls silent again, looking as though there's more he wants to say. In the end, he can't figure out what to say and ends up tightening his grip on the (what appears to be) a piece of twine clenched in his right hand.]

[John's a little taken aback by the sudden knock, and his surprise only grows as he pulls the door open and sees Jane standing there. Damn. He didn't think she was actually already outside the door!! You the best, Nanna.]

[He laughs a little.]

Jeez, that was fast! You haven't been lying to me about your last name, have you? You sure you aren't a Strider?

[WITH THEIR CRAZY FLASH STEPPIN' WAYS.]

[Offering a smile, she covers her mouth with a little hoo hoo, shaking her head.] I'm quite positive I'm no Strider. I'd be far better versed in ironic statements, for one!

I see, so Dirk just taught you the rare and noble Strider art of flash step, is that it?

[He pulls the door open a little more and backs away, gesturing for Jane to come inside.]

I wish! That would really make it so easy to get from one end of town to the other in a heartbeat!

[Stepping in, she has no hesitations in stepping in to give John a good firm hug.]

I know, right? Damn Striders and their stupid secret keeping.

[John has little problem with hugging her back, though it's kind of a wimpy one. Like a really wimpy one. His heart doesn't seem to entirely be in it.]

Seriously.

[She's not letting go of that hug until she gets a better one, and for that wimpy hug? Jane just hugs tighter, one hand gently smoothing against his back.]

[Eventually, she gets a squeeze with a little more oomph behind it. It's not a big hug, but it is, at least, a better one. On the downside, John falls completely silent.]

[With the better hug, Jane finally releases him, but not without gently smoothing his bangs back over his forehead with a gentle smile.]

So, um, how does the weather usually get about this time of year here? [Small talk, it is the best. Right?]

[Even though it kind of makes him feel like a kid, John can't help but smile a little at that.]

Ahaha, aside from cold, you mean? Winters are kind of unpredictable, from my experience at least. There was a really bad blizzard within my first couple of weeks being here. But last year wasn't so bad. Lots of snow though. That much is constant.

[For now, yes. It certainly is.]

Good, it sounds like we'll have plenty of chances to outright play in the snow. I'm fairly certain some in the group have never seen it, and a snow fort might be a fun project! [It's a distraction, at least.]

Oh yes. Hehehe, ample opportunity for that! I mean what's winter without a snowball fight or two?

Right! [Smiling gently, Jane reaches to fix a cowlick of hair again.]

I do think now is the time to say that I am all ears, if you want to talk about your mention on the network.

[He sighs. He's already talked some of his feelings out with Karkat. And while his thoughts are more in order because of it, he wouldn't say he's really done talking yet.]

Mmm...did you ever get the chance to meet her? Vriska, I mean.

I'm afraid not; I get the feeling she would have been an incredible person to meet though!

[He closes his eyes and smiles a little at that.]

Yeah. She is.

Tell me about her. What were her favorite Pokemon here? Was she from our universe?

She's one of the trolls. You know, like Aradia and Karkat. So yes, she's from our universe but you know not...OUR our universe.

[You get it, right?]

She has a thing for spiders though. But I am pretty sure that Lucky over there was actually her favorite. [He gestures to the shiny Gallade, now curled up in a chair and staring at the floor.] Her lucky catch, she called him. Hence the name. The Ralts line isn't normally blue, you see. And Vriska always did know which color is the best.

[Which is to say: blue.]

Oh, I see! Our universe is close enough, hoohoo!

[...... She kind of wants to just hug that Gallade until he cheers up, even a little. He looks so sad..] That's incredible! I would definitely agree that he was a lucky catch. So blue was her favorite color then too? [~~John do you have a blue lady thing too~~]

Hehe, yeah. Took her a couple of hours to get him. They have been pretty much inseparable since that day. But she was a blue-blood so I don't really know if it was her favorite color persay, but she was fond of it. Orange too, since she was a Hero of Light.

[~~No he has a thing for light ladies.~~]

If anything, blue and orange are complementing colors that make the other stand out brighter. Both colors could easily be her favorite! It sounds like it was incredibly exciting to find him, either way.

[~~OH. OH OKAY.~~]

Yeah. I found Cupid around that same time. Though luckily, I didn't have to chase the little bugger down. Kind of the opposite, actually. Hehe, I guess I was really the lucky one in that situation.

Wow, two shiny Pokemon found around the same time? Goodness, I wonder what made those come out; Shinies are incredibly rare!

I don't know but it wasn't just the two of them, even! My friend Arturia found a Togepi just like Cupid and another one of the trolls found a golden Luvdisc. And Dad found a purple Audino! Jade has him now since he left a few weeks ago but...yeah. [A beat.] Err, I should clarify. Not Dad in the sense of my Dad from back home. You know, shops at Dadly Depot and all that. The Other Father, he's from another world entirely.

Anyway, yeah. It was pretty amazing. I kind of wonder if they were drawn out by the Pokemon love song or whatever it was.

So many found all together, perhaps there was a swarm of some sort? Other Father.. that's an interesting concept; did he just want to care for the kids who were here and that's how he got that name?

[She's wishing she had the chance to meet both of these people who have been so important to Poppop's life.]

Not exactly, no. It wasn't a name that was given to him here that was just...literally his name. Like how he introduced himself and everything. Just... [He does his best imitation of the Other Father's voice.] 'Hey kiddo, I'm your Other Father!'

[He drops the cheery voice and goes back to his own.]

It seems kind of silly to explain it because it's literally exactly what it sounds like. He and his wife are every kid's set of Other parents. They exist to give all the love and attention a kid needs to grow if they so need it. Like, you know if you don't really have a mother or a father figure in the first place. Or if you just...needed them. For any reason at all.

[A small, somewhat sad smile crosses his face.]

He set up a house right here in Goldenrod where kids could come and go as they please if they so needed. It's still here, even though he's not.
