[John seems somehow distracted when he turns on the video today. He's sitting at the kitchen table in his house, chin propped in his hand and eyes on a Pokéball he's rolling idly on the table in front of him.]

You ever wonder what it is that determines what happens to a Pokémon after its trainer goes back home? I mean, I've thought about it before but never really thought about it if that makes any sense? This is really the first time I've inherited one that wasn't from a friend so it just got me thinking.

Granted, it originally belonged to someone who was... [He pauses, seeming almost hesitant to finish that sentence. Or perhaps unsure of how he wants to end it.] ...a friend. At...one point in time... [He trails off, brow furrowing as he stops rolling the ball around.] So maybe it has less to do with Eridan and more to do with her.

[He leans his chair back on two legs, picking the ball up and passing it back and forth between his hands, finally looking at the camera.]

So yeah. Anybody have any good conspiracy theories on the matter? I'm curious.

I think I'll just be happy enough making a legend out of myself here, for now.

Which is an excellent goal. One I'm sure you will accomplish in no time. I mean, look how quickly you got all the badges.

Yeah. So I guess now you just...what? Prepare yourself for whenever the elite four decides to finally show their faces? I imagine becoming the champion would be the next step for a legend.

[He really should have seen this coming. But no. He had to be cocky and arrogant. Again.

This sparring match is all about choking on some good old fashioned humble pie sprinkled with humiliation and made foul with under-estimation filling.

But he has one more trick up his sleeve and hopefully this will earn him the win. Dave curses John and drops back, letting himself fall. He seizes John's shoulders as he goes down and slides a leg around him to tip John's balance and put more of his weight into the effort. If he can pull this off. He'll get exactly what he wants, time to recover and come at the fight as a cautious fighter this time instead of a crouching jackass hidden moron.]

[The attempt is an overwhelming success on Dave's part. John was, unfortunately, too busy being an obnoxious goober to keep his guard up as well as he should have. Though if he thinks this is all it will take to win, Dave is sorely mistaken. Hitting the deck twice isn't enough to stop John, though it is enough to get him to stop laughing at least.]

[Still your move, Strider.]

Oooo that's a good option too! I am fairly sure none of us have managed that yet. Unless it happened before I got here and the person left and the old leader took over again.

...but I don't think that's likely. Just a hunch.

[Dave doesn't hesitate this time. The moment he's got John on the ground he pulls his arm back and aims to punch John in the jaw. He doesn't pull it like he'd thought to at the start of the fight. If it connects he'll leap back and circle John in the grass.

His entire demeanor will be different. Instead of walking with the casual strides of a boy who thought he had the fight in the bag, he will step lightly as if he needs to spring away at any second. His eyes will never leave where John is.

But if John has the smarts to grab Dave as he prepares to strike, he'll face that with similar caution. Though it will too late to keep him out of some serious trouble as far as the fight goes.]

Hmm...

I wonder who I'd talk to to get an idea about that. One of the Gym leaders might know, but then I'd have to find whoever said they could be Gym leaders...

[But now she has a goal!]

[John doesn't quite have the smarts to grab Dave's hand. Or maybe the thought just didn't occur to him as a viable option. He does, at least, turn his head to try and lessen the impact of Dave's fist.]

[He's surprised when the other boy jumps back. He honestly expected...well, more than that. He gets to his feet, rubbing his jaw with a quiet 'ah, shit.']

What, that's it? You lay me out like that just to give me one punch before going back to the cat and mouse games, come on dude! If you're trying to make sure I get some running in today, thanks I guess, but come at me bro! Come on!

[John smacks his chest and throws his arms out. Though judging by the way he just planted his feet, he clearly has a plan if mind if Dave takes the taunt and comes charging at him for once. This isn't as much of a free shot as he's making it out to be.]

Hehe, yeah definitely keep me posted! I want to be able to tell my kids one day that I knew the great Tenten while she was in the process of becoming a legend.

[He shouldn't buy into the taunt. Dave is well aware in close range, John's raw strength and lack of control could do some serious damage to his body. It wouldn't be his best friend's fault. He had been readied to some degree for the game but the discipline Bro made Dave impose upon himself is different, allowing them to pull hits that would have been deadly in other circumstances.

Besides, he isn't that stupid, John has a plan and he shifts on his feet and charges towards him. Yet he isn't coming at John head on. Bits of grass fly up as he bears down on him with all of his speed put into every drumming step. He needs to time this just right or he'd be right in John's grasp and everything would be over.

He aims for the right side with the idea that if he moves fast enough he can strike John's side in a pass and sweep around to strike at his back or to knock him down again. No matter what happens, Dave isn't going down without a vicious fight.]

that's usually how this works.
it's just a matter of waiting it out until it decides to open the in door back to our world.

[Okay so Dave coming from the side throws a bit of a wrench in John's brilliant scheme. Which is kind of a shame because it would have been awesome if he had charged at him head on, but no biggie. He can work with this. Especially since, with as fast as Dave is moving, the other boy might not notice that John has no intention of lowering his arms from his "come at me bro" stance.]

[His original plan was to either grab Dave and headbutt him in the chest. Or swing his arms back as a sort of momentum and headbutt Dave in the chest. So either way: Dave was going to have a . There are so many ways that either of these could have backfired on him but you know what? John never claimed to be a master strategist fighter. He's just kind of making it up as he goes, like usual.]

[Obviously he can't do this now. So instead, John curls his right hand into a fist. Once Dave is close enough, he swings his fist (arm still straight out) towards Dave's cheek, windmilling his torso. It's not going to be a very hard hit thanks to the awkward stance and the fact that this is his non-dominant hand, but John's hoping it'll be enough to knock him off course so he can follow up with...something.]

[Not quite that far ahead in the plan yet. ~~Perhaps a headbutt.~~]

[Dave had been ducking down about to go into a baseball player's slide when he's hit from behind. He's still going down but he hits the grass face first and skids a bit from his own momentum. He curses and rolls to get onto his back.

He needs to get back up fast or he'll be the one wincing at how badly shit turned out for him.]

[Dave...you make this too easy. Hitting the ground? Man, the answer here requires no thought at all. As Dave starts skidding over the grass, John dives after him. He's aiming to pin the other boy down before he even has a chance to flip over onto his back. Because John knows that if Dave manages that, he'll be on his feet in the blink of an eye.]

[If he manages to land on Dave's back, John will lean in low, attempting to use his weight to keep Dave down. He will be more or less straddling Dave's ass, his left hand pushing against Dave's head to keep his cheek to the dirt. His right hand will make a grab for Dave's own, attempting to twist it back against Dave's back and further keep him still. You're on Egbertian lockdown, Dave.]

[It's like the haunted house all over again.]

[Except even worse.]

[There is basically no way this doesn't look completely terrible/questionable in every way and John does even slightly realize this fact. Too caught up in the heat of the moment and holy shit is he actually about to win???]

[Things just haven't gone as Dave planned. The wind gets knocked out of him when John descends like a damn bear. He tastes dirt and grass, when he tries to inhale and barely manages to keep his arm out of John's grip. He tucks it against his side, wondering if he can get out of this.

He never thought his best friend would be like an iron vice. It certainly makes him reassess every move he's made. He should have kicked him in the ribs and kept him down at the start. John could take it.

Dave pushes his hands against the ground and tries to surge up, despite the fact this looks really questionable. ]

[Now you know for next time, Dave. Now you know.]

[For now though, you have to deal with John pushing all his weight back down on you in an attempt to keep you on the ground. Because this doesn't look questionable at all either.]

Ah ah!! Not so fast, Strider! Ready to give up yet? Or do I have to bring out the big guns?

[Dear god, hopefully nobody is looking out the back windows right now.]

I'll give up when I'm dead! [He hisses and strains against John's weight, his body pressed back against his and sweat running down his face. He tries to buck but there's no room for it.

His brow furrows and he tries to move to the side but he's pinned down. Dave curses and lies still for a second, thinking maybe he can knock John loose if he plays like he's giving in. Seconds after that he tries to surge up.

Dear god no one look out the back windows.]

W-woah!

[For a second there Dave, you almost had him. Almost. As Dave tries to surge up, John bears down hard to try and keep the taller boy pinned beneath him.]

Alright! You asked for it!

[Big guns it is.]

[It's time for...]

[Oh my god, it's time for..................]
