prank #48 | video
[John seems somehow distracted when he turns on the video today. He's sitting at the kitchen table in his house, chin propped in his hand and eyes on a Pokéball he's rolling idly on the table in front of him.]
You ever wonder what it is that determines what happens to a Pokémon after its trainer goes back home? I mean, I've thought about it before but never really thought about it if that makes any sense? This is really the first time I've inherited one that wasn't from a friend so it just got me thinking.
Granted, it originally belonged to someone who was... [He pauses, seeming almost hesitant to finish that sentence. Or perhaps unsure of how he wants to end it.] ...a friend. At...one point in time... [He trails off, brow furrowing as he stops rolling the ball around.] So maybe it has less to do with Eridan and more to do with her.
[He leans his chair back on two legs, picking the ball up and passing it back and forth between his hands, finally looking at the camera.]
So yeah. Anybody have any good conspiracy theories on the matter? I'm curious.

[He really thought that he was over this shit by now. But then Vriska's Galvantula showed up in his box thanks to Eridan leaving and lol, NOPE.]
Anyway, the conspiracy theories thing was mostly a joke. But I am kind of surprised at how many people seem to have inherited Pokémon from people they never met. I didn't really think that happened all that often.
Well, if it changes anything, we also had property left to us - at least some of the Pokémon I got seemed to belong to the previous owner of that property. That might have something to do with it...
Ah, but as long as you're all right. Was she a girlfriend of yours?
[...god, he needs to stop talking about a sentence before he actually stops.]
[John grimaces a little at that last question though, scratching his cheek. He seems mildly uncomfortable but not so much so that he won't comment further. And he doesn't seem offended despite the fact that, wow, Ishimaru did you really just ask that?]
Err...yes and no. It's weird alien romance stuff. Trolls have a much more complicated system of romance than humans do, it involves four different types. So she wasn't a girlfriend in the way you're probably thinking. Rose is the only girl I've ever dated in that sense. But Vriska and I had this...platonic...sort of romance thing going for a while.
But the relationship itself wasn't really the problem. It's more the fact that I ever trusted her and viewed her as a friend to begin with. [He sighs.] Like...have you ever known somebody and thought they were okay...only to find out later that they were completely fucking batshit up the belfry? Because that's basically what happened here.
Yes, I've known at least four girls like that. I've had better luck with the boys not turning out...like that, though some of them weren't all there either - but either way, I know what you're talking about, yes!
Woah wait, really? [He honestly kind of expected a no in response to that. Or maybe something along the lines of 'crazy, but not full-on batshit'.]
Well then. You understand where I am coming from then. Though I hope you don't have the additional romantic entanglements there, however platonic they may have actually been. Because let me tell you, that just makes the whole thing worse. What is it about girls though, because I swear you're right about that. Like even if they aren't nuts to a murderous degree, I still seem to run into more crazy girls than I do boys.
Most of the boys I know are more prone to delinquency, if they're going to be flagrant about anything - which isn't good either, obviously, but at least they're straightforward about their tendencies! Whereas the girls seemed fine until they suddenly weren't; it was a lot more jarring when it came to the girls. So I don't know that they did anything that was necessarily worse - however, the sudden shift in behavior made it seem really...extreme? If that makes sense!
[He shrugs.]
Girls are enigmatic creatures. They take a lot more effort to understand; and even when you think you do, chances are you probably still don't fully get what's going through their heads. And you probably never will. But I like to think I am getting better at recognizing the differences between "mostly harmless" enigma and "dangerously insane" enigma, if nothing else.
[...sort of. He's sort of getting better at this.]
[He twitches a little once that's out there, though, because it occurs to him that that...isn't necessarily limited to the girls, is it? Just. Give him a moment, hang on.]
But in general, I've found girls to be more difficult to relate to than boys, insane or not - in the school I was attending back home, there was at least one I knew that was strange to the point that I'm not sure how people talked to her in the first place, and many of them tend to be either entirely too open or completely closed off. It's...strange.
[Good job, John. Just keep adding to the pile of weird statements that were better left unsaid.]
Anyway, yeah. Just in general I think there's something about girls' brains that are wired a little differently than boys. I mean not in the sense that they're incapable, dumb, weak, or anything like that I mean it more like in a social sense? Like you said, it's just harder for boys to relate to them right off the bat. In most cases, anyway.
