prank #32 | accidental audio + action for the other house
[Sometime in the afternoon, there's a random audio broadcast from one "John Egbert." Judging by the fact that it opens awkwardly in the middle of some random piano scales, John has no idea that it's on. And why should he? After all, he didn't turn it on. That would be his Litwick's fault, who didn't really mean to either. But hey, accidents happen.]
[Between on-and-off sick spells as well as his inability to speak clearly thanks to the lingering effects of last month's breakout, John hasn't exactly wanted to go out and do a whole lot. Hence why he's been spending a vast majority of his afternoons (like this one) in the Other House music room instead of leaving the house to go train or work or something.]
[In fact, you could say that he is effectively.........homestuck.]
[After a couple of minutes of what is clearly random warm ups, John starts banging out a tune that absolutely nobody will find familiar, save for perhaps residents of the Other House who may have overheard bits and pieces of it during John's other sessions over the past week. It doesn't sound quite complete with just the piano, unfortunately, which is a bit of a shame but there's really nothing John can do about it.If only Dave were here to spin out some ill beats to fill in the gaps]
[For a while after that, there's just random key-pressing as John seems to be at a loss for what to play next. Barring the fact that the piece clearly needs another instrument or two; overall, John is happy with how it sounds and it needs no further work in his opinion. Eventually those random key presses lead into a possibly familiar haunting piano refrain. Halfway through, however, John changes his mind and switches to one that's slightly more haunting and likely even more familiar.]
[A few more scales at random before John decides that that is more than enough random composing and haunting piano refrains for one day.]
[It's time to play something fun.]
[He still has no idea that the feed is going, so until a message or a knock at the music room door distracts him, he'll just keep playing whatever random tunes pop into his head.]

audio. HAHA I was wondering-- IT'S COOL.
I had a feeling it was something like that. [ a bit of a pause as she tries to consider how to describe it. ] If I recall, it started a little before...
[ huh. ]
... The piece that sounded a little incomplete.
text; i am a ginormous failure orz
well i guess at least i was having a good day today instead of just...spamming the network with lots of random key plinking.
that probably would have been annoying.
i didn't bother you or anything, right?
auuudioo forever. and haha don't worry, it happens to everyone.
It was... pleasant. I wouldn't mind hearing some more.
text until otherwise noted
like right now or was that just a general, figurative statement?

i didn't really have anything else planned for today.

hmmm...
[A few moments later, he switches back over to audio and begins playing the first song that comes to mind.]

she'll only really comment when he stops. a: ]
You have a very large variety.
no subject
well i have been playing for a while now! and i am pretty good at remembering melodies.
but thank you.
no subject
Only melodies?
no subject
well for some songs, i can remember the whole thing.
but for some, yeah just a main melody.
like ride of the valkyries, for instance. i can remember the opening, but unless i have the sheet music in front of me, i mess up in the middle.
either way though, variety is a good thing, right? it gets kind of boring to play the same sort of thing over and over and over again.

I wouldn't say I know much about music, but I can agree with that. [ a tilt of the head. ] Variety never hurts.
no subject
exactly!
so does that mean you don't play an instrument yourself or anything?

[ looking a little bit pensive here. ]
Learning was never really on my list of priorities.
no subject
or did it just not work out that way?

[He chuckles a little bit. He might not be as up to speed as the rest of his friends concerning their homeworld, but he's heard enough to know that there own situation very rapidly turns into a constant state of "things to worry about" and "things to deal with one at a time."]
it's a lot of fun though.
if you ever find yourself with lots of free time here, it might be something to do.
if you were really interested, that is.

[ it's light, not too serious. like she's only describing a rainy day, or something like that. ]
I wouldn't mind, considering there's less to worry about here. [ and her expression turns playful, then. ] Would you mind if I asked for a bit of help here and there?
no subject
me?
i don't know...i'd probably be a pretty sucky teacher, to be honest.
i mean i can try if you really want but you would probably be better off asking someone like my dad.
he's a much better musician and teacher than i am.

Can't forget that.
