[When the feed clicks on, it's to a close up shot of a Shedinja floating inside what appears to be a hotel room. The ghost is just staring blankly at the screen, neither moving nor giving any other sort of indication that it's alive or that it really had any reason for apparently deciding to turn the gear on.]

[Just. Staring.]

[It's probably kind of unnerving and the worst part is that this goes on for a good twenty minutes before something else finally happens.]

Ugh, Phoebe did you hide my gear somewhere again? It was cute and kind of funny like the first maybe...three times? But that's really starting to wear off, sorry to say. Jeez, where is everyone it's like a gravey--

[John's voice can be heard in the background, and just as he wonders to himself where all his Pokémon went, his feet can be seen in the background behind the Shedinja. He sighs.]

Well that explains where everyone went at least. [The neon green argyle sock-clad feet approach the bug ghost and the camera.] Exos, what are you doing over here...oh. Ugh, not you too! Jesus what does a guy have to do, I swear... [The camera jostles as John, still mumbling to himself, picks the 'gear up. He redirects the camera to his own face, looking a little exasperated.]

Sorry about that. Exos is...well okay I have no idea what the fuck he was trying to accomplish there, if anything at all. But since this is already on, may as well make some kind of point here I guess. Umm, let's see...

Tell me about your favorite type of Pokémon. Or your favorite species, anything like that. Feel free to gush about your team and the things you have accomplished together, I don't mind. It's actually kind of fun to hear what other people have to say about their companions.

Here, I will even go first. Ghost types are my favorite and thanks to Bro Strider, I recently finished my collection of grim, grinning ghosts. I now have at least one of every ghost-type evolutionary line. My favorite species is Haunter. Mostly for nostalgia reasons but Haunters have the added benefit of just being pretty awesome in general.

[John's eyes brighten as the camera view switches to the Ninetales.]

Oh wow, she's...he's? Your Ninetales is really pretty! Like, they're pretty normally but that's a really gorgeous coloration. Was it blue as a Vulpix too?

... He, I think.

[ If Josh pretends he doesn't know their genders of the top of his head, it looks less like he can read their minds. Yup. ]

No, it used to be more of a tan golden color. My other odd Pokemon kept its color throughout all its evolutions, so I was rather surprised when this one turned blue.

You think?

The same thing happened to me with my Whimsicott! She was gold as a Cottonee but then she suddenly turned black with blue horns. Like...the puffy part didn't even stay the same color it went from golden to pure white. But my Togepi stayed the same all through his evolutions and so did my friends' Ralts that I have now.

It's kinda weird. But technically I guess there are some that change colors when they evolve normally too. Like Golbat to Crobat and Gloom to Bellossom...

Black with blue horns...? [ Joshua takes a moment to imagine it, and giggles. ] Well that sounds strange.

Still, one would think it would at least try to stay consistent. I seem to recall Vulpix and Ninetales sharing similar tail colors, and that wasn't the case with this one at all. And if you can't trust genetics even in the presence of mutations, what can you trust? Hee hee.

It was definitely not what I was expecting. But it's cute, she and I kinda match in a way. [Black hair, blue eyes; black skin, blue horns...spitting image, really. He laughs.]

Nothing, apparently. Chalk another one up to "Random Johto Weirdness" and call it a day, I guess. About all we can do.

[ Joshua kind of matches his, too! But that's A Secret To Everybody. ]

Yet somehow they're mostly blue. Coincidence, or a trend?

It's like the secret of the center of Tootsie Pops. The world may never know!

Ah, but how do we know that we're destined to never know if we never ask in the first place?

Uhh...

[He seems to think on it for a second, then opens his mouth to reply, only to reconsider and close it again. And a second time...no wait, never mind he still doens't have an answer. False alarm.]

Each other is always a good place to start. If you don't ask, you'll never know if anyone else knows.

You have a point. Though I think the question about this place that I want to answer more than anything is: "is there a way to stay here?"

[He chuckles.]

Not that the over abundance of blue shinies isn't worth investigation too.

[ Now Joshua figured that there were people who'd prefer this place over their own worlds, but this is his first time actually hearing someone say something like it. ]

Yeah, I would. It's much nicer here and to be honest, I don't have a whole lot to look forward to if I go home. All of my friends are from the future and from everything they have said, shit really starts going south pretty quickly and doesn't really stop.

Even if everything does end up working out okay in the end, which none of us are sure if it will, most of us are already here. So it's kinda like...why bother going back, you know?

Something important you left at home? A sense of unfulfilled obligation? A strong desire to make sure everything works out in the end? Greater calamity caused by your absence?

There's plenty of reasons. Of course, nothing says they need to matter to you.
