Haha, yeah it's kind of weird when you put it that way. But at least parents typically teach their kids that people breaking into the house is bad and you shouldn't let strangers in most of the time. Jolly old bearded fat men in red suits are okay, but only provided they come down the chimney and it's just on that one specific night.

We do New Year's too but it's... not really much of a holiday to be honest? More like a "yay! it's a new year! Let's make a bunch of promises to better ourselves in the upcoming year that we all know we're going to break within a week." type of deal. An excuse for adults to get drunk and party.

Yeah, okay I was right about White Day then. It's only something I have heard mentioned in passing really. Both genders do things for Valentine's Day in America, not just girls. Though it is somewhat thought of as a more girly holiday. Hinamatsuri is a completely new one on me though! We don't have anything like that stateside. I don't know if maybe other countries do. Since it sounds like your world has some commonalities with Japan in my world.
