prank #48 | video
[John seems somehow distracted when he turns on the video today. He's sitting at the kitchen table in his house, chin propped in his hand and eyes on a Pokéball he's rolling idly on the table in front of him.]
You ever wonder what it is that determines what happens to a Pokémon after its trainer goes back home? I mean, I've thought about it before but never really thought about it if that makes any sense? This is really the first time I've inherited one that wasn't from a friend so it just got me thinking.
Granted, it originally belonged to someone who was... [He pauses, seeming almost hesitant to finish that sentence. Or perhaps unsure of how he wants to end it.] ...a friend. At...one point in time... [He trails off, brow furrowing as he stops rolling the ball around.] So maybe it has less to do with Eridan and more to do with her.
[He leans his chair back on two legs, picking the ball up and passing it back and forth between his hands, finally looking at the camera.]
So yeah. Anybody have any good conspiracy theories on the matter? I'm curious.

[Though that last bit is a little more quiet, more directed to herself than to him. Because if she does go to the future and experience everything that Neji has so far, would she really remember everything she has with Sasuke now? Even after waking up?]
I'd say maybe the Pokémon knew a particular trainer they wanted to be with, but a few of the ones I have aren't ones that I think I've ever interacted with.
VIDEO
[The letter he had gotten was...mostly okay but he saw how much Dave III's gesture had torn up Rose and especially Jade. John kind of wanted to punch him for being so low as to leave something like a LOVE CONFESSION in a letter to be opened after he left. Seriously, who does that.]
I wouldn't say you are entirely wrong though! Even if you've gotten some that you didn't know personally. I feel like some of the ones I have sort of...chose me, in a way. At least in the instances where it was a travel partner who left. There's just something about finding them in your room or at your door that's a little different then finding a new addition in your box.
[Aside from being slightly more heartbreaking.]
VIDEO
[Wow who does that. ...Ninjas would do that, actually. Tenten would, at least. But her stakes are a little less dire considering that she's already given her love confession, of a sort.]
I guess I'm lucky I haven't had that happen to me. Or... maybe it's unlucky. I mean, I haven't been near someone when they disappeared. The closest was Evan, I guess, but even then, we weren't traveling together or anything.
I don't know. I am kind of glad it happens, though. Otherwise, how else would we know?
VIDEO
But yeah, same. Though I really wish there was like...a way for us to have conscious control over coming and going. Then it would never be a surprise. And people who wanted to go home could do so easily, while those of us who don't could just stay here forever without having to worry...
VIDEO
[She's been thinking about it a lot -- everything from her 'future' that she's heard about, combined with just how great everything is here.]
But even if we could make that choice -- assuming we'd forget, like everyone says happens when you go back -- I don't know if I would. 'Cause I know Neji'd want to go back, but I don't know about Sasuke. And I'd be losing all my friends here, too. When there's a chance my comrades from the village might come here.
[She shrugs.]
I dunno.
VIDEO
[He smiles a little.]
But hey, don't worry about it too much. I don't think anybody is even close to figuring out how and why we're brought here. So we're all bound by the whims of the unknown for that much longer, I guess.
VIDEO
[She cracks a small smile to try to match his, trying to think about what it must be like, to like it better here than at home.]
But yeah, you're right. I can't even wrap my head around the technology behind a PC, so it'll be up to someone else to figure out how to get home.
VIDEO
Hey, who says technology has anything to do with it. Nobody has any idea what it is, don't sell yourself so short just yet!
VIDEO
[Let someone else be the main character. :|]
I think I'll just be happy enough making a legend out of myself here, for now.
VIDEO
[Sometimes, Tenten, you make him feel like a slacker in that regard. Probably because he sort of was.]
VIDEO
I did get them all really fast, huh? Maybe I'm closer than I think!
VIDEO
VIDEO
[And she could kick their asses. Sounds fun!]
VIDEO
...but I don't think that's likely. Just a hunch.
VIDEO
I wonder who I'd talk to to get an idea about that. One of the Gym leaders might know, but then I'd have to find whoever said they could be Gym leaders...
[But now she has a goal!]
I'll let you know if they say anything!
