So did anybody know that it's possible for Pokémon to be deaf?

[While John looks more or less fine, when he speaks there's a definite sort of half-squeaky grogginess to his voice that suggests he's only just recently gotten it back. Someone was pretty damn sick over New Year's (on his deathbed, one would think, the way he carried on) and has only just recently gotten over it. But at least his nose finally stopped running and he's done coughing. His lost voice just has yet to find its way back to him entirely.]

[He's sitting on the floor of his living room, leaning back against the couch. He's not looking at the camera, though. Instead, he's smiling somewhat fondly at a cheerful-looking Gothita playing with a squiddle doll a few feet away from him. She's chewing on one of the tentacles, giggling a little with her back to John.]

I feel like it really shouldn't be so surprising. I just never really stopped to think about it being a Thing That Could Happen, you know? [He turns his attention to the camera, finally.]

Anyway, so how was everyone's New Year? I missed ringing it in, myself.

i imagine when she's older we can talk that way. that's usually how that works.
at least with some species.

mostly the fact that i had no idea it was happening.
i was really sick last week. like the kind of sick where you don't get out of bed for a few days and completely lose track of time.

uhh...not a whole lot? she told me her hair drills are natural though, which i don't believe for a second.
mostly we just talked about vulpix and ninetales.

oh did you? i'm glad to hear that.
i'm doing okay though. kanaya was a good friend and all, but she and i were never as close as she and rose were.
i feel sorry for rose and aradia more than i myself am sad, if that makes sense.

yeah. she always does! we all do.
she didn't start drinking over it, even though she wanted to. i am proud of her for that.
and she's more or less back to her old self now.

Did she tell you some of us have been considering making a trip up to Ecruteak?

Those plans have been delayed somewhat by house business, but as far as I know it's still a viable course of action for the future — particularly if this warm weather holds out.

if you defeat blue's elite team, you get a reusable ticket. maybe clair's too? idk, i just did the normal badge circuit when i went through johto.

rose and i beat him a while ago, but didn't have the time to actually take the cruise between buying a house and the cascade of holidays that followed.
but we're both coming up on our three year anniversaries for being here, so we figured now was as good a time as any.

That sounds interesting. I've heard that Blue is the "last" gym in that circuit; does it have to be a full complete of the elite teams, or can you just go defeat him straight off?

just for beating his.
because, yeah, he's "last". he was last for me but i had a few friends who did him in the middle of their circuits because of how they were traveling.
heck, rose is still missing one of the kanto badges, we're going to nab it on our way back since we have to go through saffron anyway.
