So did anybody know that it's possible for Pokémon to be deaf?

[While John looks more or less fine, when he speaks there's a definite sort of half-squeaky grogginess to his voice that suggests he's only just recently gotten it back. Someone was pretty damn sick over New Year's (on his deathbed, one would think, the way he carried on) and has only just recently gotten over it. But at least his nose finally stopped running and he's done coughing. His lost voice just has yet to find its way back to him entirely.]

[He's sitting on the floor of his living room, leaning back against the couch. He's not looking at the camera, though. Instead, he's smiling somewhat fondly at a cheerful-looking Gothita playing with a squiddle doll a few feet away from him. She's chewing on one of the tentacles, giggling a little with her back to John.]

I feel like it really shouldn't be so surprising. I just never really stopped to think about it being a Thing That Could Happen, you know? [He turns his attention to the camera, finally.]

Anyway, so how was everyone's New Year? I missed ringing it in, myself.

[Time to play catch-up since he's been out of the loop for like a week now and fuck checking all the network backlog.]

Um...just that it's obviously a place you don't want to go because there's spooky fog and freaky-ass monsters and everything is terrible, basically?

I don't actually know a whole lot about it, I only saw the movie once and that was years ago. I am not really into horror, to tell you the truth. [He quirks a brow.] Why?

_{[There's a silence. Because while her first impulse when hearing someone talk about the fog and monsters in Silent Hill is to think Oh god, it's another one. It's someone else who's seen it, after what he says next...]}

[It vaguely begins to dawn on John that maybe, just maybe, he's said something he shouldn't have.]

_{[Except in her heart, she knows better. She's met tons of people here from cartoons and books and movies that she saw as a kid. Even a guy who claims to be straight from a video game. But, like most people, she's always considered her world and life to be the exception.]}

[She really, really does. And for a minute there, he's inclined to keep believing this. But she is just way too pissed to be somebody overreacting to a video game being turned into a bad movie.]

Uhm, in my world it is? But I am...thinking this is not the case for you. Is it?

[Don't tell him you've been there because holy hell no.]

[Silent Hill does not need to be a real world out there somewhere that's just bullshit. Like Heather, John's met a few people who by all means should be fictional. His explanation for it though is that it's just some kind of weird universal bleedover. He's convinced that there's a world out there where HE'S in a movie or something.]

[Doesn't make any of them any less real though.]

_{[If she was an animal, her ears would be slicked back and her hackles would be straight up.]

[Apparently it IS real, though, because while she doesn't say anything, she does that sort of aggressive 'YA THINK?!' shrug, arms spread.]}

I am not sure what to say to that other than oh my god I am so sorry? Because I don't think there's a word for how awful that actually must have been and I am sorry you had to go through something like that.

[John is pretty sure he can guess what that look of relief is for. He may not be the brightest crayon in the box sometimes, but he's definitely not the dullest either. He's some weird, random shade in the middle, probably some awkward shade of blue that doesn't get used a lot. Or something.]
