So did anybody know that it's possible for Pokémon to be deaf?
[While John looks more or less fine, when he speaks there's a definite sort of half-squeaky grogginess to his voice that suggests he's only just recently gotten it back. Someone was pretty damn sick over New Year's (on his deathbed, one would think, the way he carried on) and has only just recently gotten over it. But at least his nose finally stopped running and he's done coughing. His lost voice just has yet to find its way back to him entirely.]
[He's sitting on the floor of his living room, leaning back against the couch. He's not looking at the camera, though. Instead, he's smiling somewhat fondly at a cheerful-looking Gothita playing with a squiddle doll a few feet away from him. She's chewing on one of the tentacles, giggling a little with her back to John.]
I feel like it really shouldn't be so surprising. I just never really stopped to think about it being a Thing That Could Happen, you know? [He turns his attention to the camera, finally.]
Anyway, so how was everyone's New Year? I missed ringing it in, myself.
[Time to play catch-up since he's been out of the loop for like a week now and fuck checking all the network backlog.]

So they have to breed with Ditto, meaning no egg moves. But! If you take it to a move tutor after it evolves, there are all sorts of things it can learn that way!

I didn't know that about Ditto, though. I guess that'd be the only way I can breed my Rotom, then. I was wondering why I never got any eggs from that guy...

This is why Rose and I really only use my Ditto when it comes to breeding genderless 'mons. I use her more for pranking purposes than anything, really.

Thank you so much, John. Just wait, it'll be one of the best Pokémon you've ever seen. And thanks for the information about Ditto, too. If I weren't about to run out of space in my box again, I'd definitely look into picking up one of those, too.

You're welcome. But if you ever need a Ditto for breeding purposes, just let me know and you can borrow Mystique, she won't mind. But they are fun little Pokémon to have for other reasons beyond breeding. [Honestly, it makes him sad that most people only seem to have them for that instead of training them to use in battle. And...other things, in John's case. Dumb doppelganger pranks.] Are you seriously about to run out of space again though? Jeez, you're really taking the gotta catch'em all thing seriously aren't you?

I don't really think it's all that weird though. I think it's just that only certain parts of worlds pass to others. If...that makes sense?
Like... [He holds his hands up in front of him in vaguely ball-like shapes.] If you think of all the worlds as separate entities that all exist in this sort of...giant void I guess. It's possible that information passes between them via some kind of interuniversal highway or something. So things that are reality in one world might manifest as media in another, but obviously you aren't going to get the whole picture! Just little slices.
So maybe my world only got a slice of this one, and that slice was Kanto.
[He lowers his hands, which had sort of been vaguely gesturing all throughout his explanation.]
That's my theory on how that works, at least.

I guess that makes sense. More sense than what I was thinking, 'cause I mean, you guys couldn't get to Kanto for a while, right? So I was thinking that maybe someone had gotten there, got sent home, and made the games based off what he remembered from being here...
But wait, has there been anything else that's been media? The way you're saying it makes it sound like Pokémon wouldn't be the only thing.

But yeah. Some of the people I have met here were movie or book characters back in my world. Actually, I was talking to someone recently and something came up in that conversation that I think gives my theory a bit more weight.
[Oh boy, more hand-talking explanations with John Egbert. At least he's not making any weird gestures.]
So in my world, there's this franchise called...well to respect this person's privacy, let's just call it Raucous Valley. Anyway, in my world, it's just a work of fiction. A movie and a couple of games. But for this person? It's real BUT there was something a little bit weird this time.
See, every other time I have talked to someone from a world that's media in mine, I've been able to recognize them by either their appearance, name, or both. In this case? Not so much. Granted, I only ever saw the movie but this person wasn't in it. And, on top of that, my acquaintance had never heard of any of the characters from the movie. But the setting I described matched up pretty well with the world this person came from.
[Really, John just never played the Silent Hill games. So to him, it seems like Heather is from the same world, but her story didn't carry over to his.]

What decides what makes someone a character or not? Like how do people end up in media? It's weird, I don't like it.
[But she listens to what he has to say about 'Raucous Valley' and just frowns more.]
I guess... I wonder if we're ever going to find out the real reason? Someone has to know.
