[Judging by the dim light, it's well into sunset by now and John's laying on a lounge chair on what can only be the deck of the S.S. Anne. On his chest lays a small Dunsparce, wearing a tiny and absolutely adorable light blue party hat. John's idly petting its back, eliciting a few content sighs from the little snake every now and again.]

I know we have a starter appreciation day, but there's nothing quite like the anniversary of your arrival to get you thinking about the Pokémon that started it all. Like really think about them, I mean. Not just kind of acknowledging that they were your first Pokémon.

Or maybe I am just sentimental, who knows. But I really think there's something kind of special about starters. Even if there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why you were paired up together. Either way, Colonel Sassacre here and I have been together three years as of today. [The Dunsparce flitters his wings a little, maybe giving the camera the smallest of smiles.] Though it feels like it's been way longer than that, honestly. Time flies when you're having fun, right?

[He beams at the camera.]

So tell me about your starters. What was yours? What sort of things have you done together? I dunno, just brag about them if you want. Or we can just talk about whatever, you know I am honestly not too picky. There's just only so long I can appreciate complete silence, personally. But this chair is way too comfy and the breeze feels way too nice to go back inside.

[He's feeling chatty again, apparently. And also lazy. Though what else is new on either of those fronts, really?]

On that note, if you haven't done the elite battle with Blue or Claire to get your S.S. Anne pass, I highly recommend doing so. Just saying. Totally worth it.

Oh a lot of things about him made the first part of my stay here easier. Really, I couldn't have asked for a better starter. Even now I tend to have him out of the ball more often than not just because it's nice to have him beside me.

... It doesn't really work indoors though. Most floors weren't built to handle Rhyperiors. [A severe oversight in her opinion.]

I hear you on that. It's much nicer having them actually with you than just...in your pocket or whatever. It's been even nicer since Rose and I got a house a few months back. We don't have to use the PC as much now and they have more room to run around and stuff like that.

[He laughs a little.]

Though I imagine most doors aren't built to handle Rhyperiors either. Aren't they pretty big?

Very big. About the only ones I can get him through are the ones to gyms or the ones into the Goldenrod department store... though no one really liked it the one time I tried to do that.

Who's Rose, by the way?

Yeah, at least the gyms are more accommodating on that. My Golurk has the same problem, though I have never tried to take him into the department store.

[Because he's pretty sure bringing a giant rock ghost inside a building is just asking for trouble.]

Ah, sorry I guess I haven't actually mentioned her before, have I? Rose is my fiancée! And one of my best friends as well.

A fiancee? I didn't know you were engaged! Congratulations! How long?

Three years in June. Or well...three years dating. Engaged for almost two if that's what you meant. [He grins.]/small> But thanks.

Either or. That long though... that's almost as much time as anyone's been in this world. You two must have gotten together fast.

Well we are from the same world so we've been friends for years. Plus, she arrived here only shortly after I did so we ended up spending a lot of time together traveling and stuff... [He trails off, unable to keep a fond but goofy looking smile from spreading across his face.]

There were a lot of factors, I guess you could say. But for the record, it felt like it took us forever to get together! Looking back on it now, I was really kind of dumb about it.

Oh that's nothing to worry about. If my brother's any example, most men are pretty dumb about that kind of thing.

Oh shit, I'd get the burn heal out for that one but I think even I can admit that you are right about that. Asking a girl out is really hard though, it can be downright terrifying in some cases! But at least we get smarter about it.

I haven't really... talked to many people before I came here, and since I got here it's mostly just been friends. I actually can't think of anyone I might be interested in like that.

Oh. Well it's not like there's a big rush or anything! [He smiles.] I think it's better not to rush or force this kind of thing honestly. Maybe one day you'll find somebody that you do think of that way.

Especially if you're talking to people more now.

Well, I have a lot more opportunity here. And you're right, there's no rush.

I have no intention of returning to my world anyway.

I can't say I blame you for that! It's the same for me, honestly. I am hoping my luck never runs out as far as leaving goes.

Well I'd be surprised if you were. And a little disappointed in you.

As would she, I imagine. [Slight smirk and a wink there.]

Heh, maybe just a little! [He rubs at the back of his head.]

But I would be pretty disappointed in myself too so...there's that I guess.

So all in all it's a very good thing you're happy here.

... As long as it doesn't send you away, at least.
