[Judging by the dim light, it's well into sunset by now and John's laying on a lounge chair on what can only be the deck of the S.S. Anne. On his chest lays a small Dunsparce, wearing a tiny and absolutely adorable light blue party hat. John's idly petting its back, eliciting a few content sighs from the little snake every now and again.]

I know we have a starter appreciation day, but there's nothing quite like the anniversary of your arrival to get you thinking about the Pokémon that started it all. Like really think about them, I mean. Not just kind of acknowledging that they were your first Pokémon.

Or maybe I am just sentimental, who knows. But I really think there's something kind of special about starters. Even if there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why you were paired up together. Either way, Colonel Sassacre here and I have been together three years as of today. [The Dunsparce flitters his wings a little, maybe giving the camera the smallest of smiles.] Though it feels like it's been way longer than that, honestly. Time flies when you're having fun, right?

[He beams at the camera.]

So tell me about your starters. What was yours? What sort of things have you done together? I dunno, just brag about them if you want. Or we can just talk about whatever, you know I am honestly not too picky. There's just only so long I can appreciate complete silence, personally. But this chair is way too comfy and the breeze feels way too nice to go back inside.

[He's feeling chatty again, apparently. And also lazy. Though what else is new on either of those fronts, really?]

On that note, if you haven't done the elite battle with Blue or Claire to get your S.S. Anne pass, I highly recommend doing so. Just saying. Totally worth it.

Chuck's gym in Cianwood, for Johto. And I believe... [Hold on, he has to think about this.] Eriiiica's in Celadon as far as Kanto goes? I had it by the time I came to Kanto so obviously I didn't need a second one. No, wait, not Erica. Sabrina. So Saffron's gym.

Oh those are super far away. I guess Mayushii won't be heading there anytime soon.

Cloudie is Cloud, my Altaria! Cherri gave him to me! He knows fly already.

Is that your name, by the way? Mayushii? [She's said it a couple of times now and unless whatever the mysterious force that translates everything here is malfunctioning, that's about all he can think it would be.]

I see. Well whenever you get the chance, you should try and teach Pipi too! Even though they're doing the same thing, it's always a different experience when flying on Pokémon.

Maybe Cloudie could teach her, he knows already.

It would be nice if they could do that though. Or if they could just...fly us around without needing an HM at all because that still doesn't make any sense.

Well.. it works kinda like video games doesn't it~? Sometimes you gotta clear a boss before unlocking something.

[He laughs a little. This is probably the first time somebody has outright said he has a blatantly English name.]

I am, yes. Washington state, if you know where that is. You're from Japan, I'm guessing, yeah?

But when you think of it that way it makes sense but at the same time it's like...these are real animals. [He shrugs.] But it's not the end of the world, ultimately. Just kinda dumb.

Ummm, oh! That's where the president lives right?

[Oh so close, but not quite.]

Yup, I'm from Akihabara, which is in Tokyo! I bet you've heard of it.

Err...not quite, no. Same name but clear on the other side of the country. Washington D.C. is a city, which is where the President lives. But it's not actually in Washington the state, which is where I live.

[This is why he always makes sure to tack the 'state' on the end of Washington when speaking with foreigners. Not that it always helps, clearly.]

I have heard of Tokyo though, yes! I think I might have heard of Akihibara too? The name sounds kinda familiar but I couldn't honestly tell you who I heard it from. I have gotten to know a couple of people from Japan over the years.

Oh I see! But why do they give two places the same name?

[It was a little confusing, clearly she was a little out of practice in geography.]

Well.. Akihibara is like a neighborhood inside of Tokyo. There's tons of shops like Animate and Mandarake to visit. You should come visit.

Americans are weird and we like our presidents, I guess.

[Shrug shrug!]

Hehe, I would if I could! But I think that might be a little difficult to accomplish now.
