[Judging by the dim light, it's well into sunset by now and John's laying on a lounge chair on what can only be the deck of the S.S. Anne. On his chest lays a small Dunsparce, wearing a tiny and absolutely adorable light blue party hat. John's idly petting its back, eliciting a few content sighs from the little snake every now and again.]

I know we have a starter appreciation day, but there's nothing quite like the anniversary of your arrival to get you thinking about the Pokémon that started it all. Like really think about them, I mean. Not just kind of acknowledging that they were your first Pokémon.

Or maybe I am just sentimental, who knows. But I really think there's something kind of special about starters. Even if there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why you were paired up together. Either way, Colonel Sassacre here and I have been together three years as of today. [The Dunsparce flitters his wings a little, maybe giving the camera the smallest of smiles.] Though it feels like it's been way longer than that, honestly. Time flies when you're having fun, right?

[He beams at the camera.]

So tell me about your starters. What was yours? What sort of things have you done together? I dunno, just brag about them if you want. Or we can just talk about whatever, you know I am honestly not too picky. There's just only so long I can appreciate complete silence, personally. But this chair is way too comfy and the breeze feels way too nice to go back inside.

[He's feeling chatty again, apparently. And also lazy. Though what else is new on either of those fronts, really?]

On that note, if you haven't done the elite battle with Blue or Claire to get your S.S. Anne pass, I highly recommend doing so. Just saying. Totally worth it.

Yeah, Keisuke can be a pain in the ass sometimes. He thinks he needs to look out for me, but I can take care of myself! He's got his heart in the right place though an' he's still my most powerful Pokemon in my team. Maybe this time round I gotta look out for'im! Give him advice on how to net this girl.

[Musings on his Pokemon's love life aside he's finally noticed that this guy seems familiar. Strange, given that this is pretty much the first time they've spoken. His eyebrows knit together as he racks his brain and his memory.]

Dude, this is gonna be kinda weird to say but have I met you before?

Hehe, he's probably just trying to give you a hand and show you that he cares. It might not have anything to do with hoe capable or incapable he thinks you are. That's how it is with my Dusknoir, at least. But that might be a good idea for you to do, yeah!

[Oh John if only you knew the sort of advice Leon will probably give his Infernape.]

But uh...no I don't think we have? I am pretty good with faces! And if not faces, then voices and you are not ringing any bells with either sense. [He pauses for a moment, tapping his chin.]

Ah...have you maybe met a guy named Jake English? Kinda looks like me but taller and tanner? Green eyes? [He chuckles.] That might be it, he and I look more alike than I do to my actual twin. Then again, she is a girl so maybe that isn't so surprising since she and I are fraternal, not identical twins.

[struck_out]

[Lightbulb. Leon snaps his fingers.]

Oh! You're....John! Jade's brother. Remember back when she an' Rose did that broadcast pretendin' to be a buncha clueless guys flailin' around on a skateboard? You must be the guy she was pretendin' to be!

...oh Jesus you saw that?

[He was still kinda sick at the time he tries not to think too much about that whole...whatever that was.]

Yeah, that's me. Jade is my sister and Rose is my fiancée. She's also Dave's sister, incidentally, who is the guy she was pretending to be. He's my best bro.

[They're a very tight knit little circle apparently.]

So you're dating your friend's twin sister? Dude, that's pretty awesome. You don't have to deal with the over protective brother 'cause the guy's your bro! Those guys can be a fuckin' pain in the ass, always checkin' up on ya every time of the day.

Is Jade datin' Dave?

I guess. I'm not really sure he would have minded to the point of being overprotective or anything like that though. I mean they weren't raised together or anything like that. But I like the idea of my best friend being my future brother-in-law, you know?

But uh...unless something has changed in the past few weeks and neither of them told me, they aren't dating, no. Not yet, at least.

[He has long since figured it's only a matter of time but Dave and Jade are slow as balls about actually making it a thing, apparently.]
