[It's three o'clock in the morning and John's sleeping as comfortably as he can on the couch in the hotel room he shares with Dave. Casey's curled up next to him, tuckered out from a long day of playing and is most definitely dreaming of adorable things.]

[Nothing new here, business as usual.]

[Well, nothing new until a small pink tongue swipes at John's face. The owner is tiny, newly-hatched Shinx, standing on John's chest and looking at him curiously. On the arm of the couch behind John's head sits another newly-hatched pokémon: an Eevee, who is surveying the scene with a bemused look. Well...as bemused as an Eevee can be.]

[Unfortunately, a lick to the face has never been enough to wake John up, even ringtones and alarm clocks have trouble with that. Failure doesn't stop the little Shinx from trying though, soon she is covering John's face with little lion-kisses which still have no effect on the sleeping boy.]

[However, even a heavy sleeper such as John will wake up if you shock him. A little accidental static discharge from his new pokébuddy's fur is all it takes for his eyes to snap open as he sits bolt upright. The Shinx falls into his lap with a disgruntled Shiii! as John grabs his glasses off of the coffee table and jams them onto his face.]

Oh man! You finally hatched!

[Yup. Hugs for his little electric lion cub! A disgruntled vee! from behind him pulls his attention to his other new "baby."]

You too?! [And now it's time for group pokémon hugs! Even Casey is in on this because, she's awake now and man does she love hugs! And new siblings! This is so exciting for everyone involved! Well except for maybe the Eevee. He wanted attention but this is just a little too undignified for him. Finally, he puts them all down, grinning like an idiot.]

This is so cool! I was beginning to wonder if you [He pokes the Shinx's nose playfully.] were ever going to hatch at all! Oh man, this is just great! [He's so excited he's repeating himself here. And obviously such exciting news needs to be shared. But with who? He really didn't feel like bothering the whole network this late at night and waking up Dave was out of the question. Karkat wouldn't care and he'd feel bad if he woke Jade up. Hmmm...]

[Bingo. Surely Rose wouldn't mind such a late call, considering she herself had called him twice now at this ridiculous hour. Odds were, she was probably still awake. Picking up the pokégear, he dials Rose's number, then holds it to his ear and listens to it ring. Hopefully he wasn't disturbing her...]

[[Her? Awake at such an hour? Of course.

When it rings, she finds herself also distracted by both a Shinx and Eevee, sipping at a fresh cup of coffee. Glancing at her gear with interest. Now who could be calling at this hour?

Picking it up and noticing the caller ID, she raises her brow and answers.]]

Good morning, John. What has you up so early?

My eggs finally hatched!

[So excited about this he forgot to even say hello! Derp.]

Oh, and yeah, good morning to you too! I didn't wake you up did I?

Not at all. I was quite wide awake myself.

And congratulations. My own Shinx finally decided to make his appearance as well. They are much cuter in flesh and fur than on the page of that book, aren't they?

[He sounds a bit worried.]

Are you still having trouble sleeping? I mean, I'm glad I didn't wake you up but I'm a lot less glad to hear that you're wide awake still.

But yeah, they really are. Still kind of...static-y, but I guess that's to be expected. Have you thought of a name for yours yet?

It's fine, John.

I find it a rather pleasant static. Not enough to cause pain, but enough to leave an almost exciting sensation behind, I suppose. And no, I've yet to think of one. How about yourself?

Okay, if you're sure. [He's still going to worry though.]

That's one way of looking at it, I guess? [Um, what? You like getting shocked?] I'm not sure either. Actually...I'm not even sure if they're boys of girls.

[He's rummaging through his bag for his pokédex now. Why does it always fall to the bottom?]

[[And she will sigh at his worry.]]

Well, I am positive mine is male.

[There's a clatter and a distant "oops!" Guess who just dropped the 'gear? He probably shouldn't have been trying to hold it between his chin and his shoulder while digging through his bag with a lap full of pokémon. Not one of his better ideas.]

[Whatever the sound of a pokégear being picked up is...that's the sound that goes right here.]

Heh, sorry. I dropped you! But, looks like my Shinx is a girl aaaaand my Eevee is a boy. Hmmm...

[[A chuckle greets him.]]

That's fine. So this means you need a name for both genders. That should be an interesting challenge for you.

Yeah, it really is. None of the names I thought of when I found out Shinxes were lions will work because she's a girl. And I need to come up with a French name for my Eevee, since apparently pokémon being French is a thing that can happen. [No John, no it isn't.] I don't want to be culturally insensitive...ow!

Hey, what was that for?

[Seems like his Eevee is a biter. 8|]

And I must say, I'm at a loss of my own for names.

He bit me! He just up and bit m-- ow! Stop that! What did I ever do to you?

[Why can't more of his pokémon be like Casey or Sassacre? WHY!? He is so disappointed. Unfortunately not disappointed enough to be prevented from suggesting really ~~shitty~~ awesome pokénames.]

You said yours is a boy though, right? You could name him Aslan.

....I refuse to name him after any movie character. I apologize, John, but such references just are not my thing.

Perhaps you should stop provoking him?

Aww, that's a shame. Because I was going to suggest Mufasa or Simba if you didn't like that one. Other than that I really don't know what else you could name it. [Movie references are kind of his only thing.]

And I'm not doing anything to provoke him! He just keeps biting my fingers! And giving me this look like it's just the funniest thing ever.

Then perhaps you should take your fingers out of his reach?

[Herp derp, that would have been the smart thing.]

Well he's kind of sitting in my lap...plus I want to pet them. They're all so soft. But if you're going to be like that then you don't get any pets, Mister Sadist. No! Casey and Selina will get all the pets. All of them. You don't get any till you stop biting. [Presumably he's talking to the Eevee here, he seems to not be thinking about the fact that he's still on the phone.]

[[Well maybe her laughter will remind him.]]

Poor Eevee.

[Whatddya know? It does. Not that he ever really forgot, of course. More like he just...got sidetracked. Yup. That's the word for it.]

Well if he'd stop biting me he wouldn't be so unfortunate. Is this a thing with Eevees? Does Guile do this too, or did she at any point?

Guile has never bitten me. Or anyone else, for that matter, save for a few loving nips to Karki-- CG when he allows it.

[He sighs, rubbing at his face in frustration.] I'm not allowed to have pokémon who aren't bent on causing me physical harm, am I? I mean at least he's still young so it doesn't really hurt too bad, but still...if this is something that's going to continue...

[UGGHHHH!]

With proper discipline, I'm sure you could train him not to do such things.

[[You still get a giggle though, John. It's purely sympathetic. Really.]]

Maybe. Vriska said I need to work on that too. It's just really hard to be strict with these guys. Especially the cute ones.

Ow! Jeez, okay you're not cute! You're handsome, how's that? You are simply the most handsome little boy-Eevee in existence. Nope, nothing cute about you at all.

[[And once again she's laughing, obviously trying to be quiet and mindful of Karkat's beauty rest.]]

Oh, so he's that type of Pokemon, is he? You will definitely need to find a name that fits him suitably.

Apparently he is one of those types, yes. [Siiigh because ugh the last thing he needs is another pokémon with a complex.] I'm drawing a complete blank here though. I really just cannot think of anything that fits him, French or otherwise...

Do you have any suggestions for a sadistic Eevee with a superiority complex? Judging by the look he's giving me, he's got one of those as well. In addition to a thing about his looks.

Really, the only name I can think of that fits such a criteria and is still within your naming scheme would be Lestat de Lioncourt.
