prank #25 | text; PRIVATE to vriska (backdated to the 18th)
[True to his word, after his conversation and subsequent visit from Karkat, John had lain down for a bit and promptly fallen asleep. Unsurprisingly, while he felt slightly less numb by the time he woke up, things still pretty much sucked. But that's kind of to be expected when you find out that apparently your dad's been dead for a while and you were none the wiser.]
[Truthfully, he would have gone to Rose first to talk to about this especially given the fact that apparently they both went through the same thing at the same time. Or something along those lines. Point is, they were together and both of there parents were dead and she would presumably understand what it was that he was going through. Probably better than John did himself because he still wasn't exactly sure what he was feeling right now. But he couldn't very well do that because Rose was unconscious and therefore didn't have much to add to the conversation.]
[This left him with two place to turn: Vriska and Dave, and frankly Dave wasn't really the person to go to to talk about feelings. Good Dave, best bro and all, but this really wasn't his area of comfort or expertise, that much John knew. So it was Vriska's number that he dialed sometime before midnight, hoping that she was still awake.]
[Besides, there as something else he had to ask her about all this. Something he was pretty sure he already knew the answer to, but he had to ask nevertheless.]
i need to talk to you.
you know, if you're not busy or asleep or something right now.

A message from John! She grins and reads it, her smile faltering a bit as she does so. It was late by human standards, and with Rose in a coma, she knew he hasn't been doing all that well.]

[She's already getting up and heading out the door. Food could wait.]

When she does arrive she knocks eight times. This way he's sure to know it's her. Not that it would be anyone else.]
no subject
That was quick!
no subject
Oh well, too late to worry about that. She turned a small smile back on John and shrugged.]
Of course it was fast. It's not like I'm terribly far away.
no subject
And I am very glad for that. [He stands there awkwardly for a moment, before moving in the direction of the couch, which luckily for Vriska is a good distance away from Rose and the bed. Once seated, he waits for the former troll to join him.]
no subject
So are you just worried about Rose? Because you seemed okay, when you talked about it before?
no subject
[He pauses, trying to figure out how best to word this. He's always been a better listener, talking about his own problems has always been a challenge. It's easier to just put up that dorky front and act like nothing ever bothers you.]
Why didn't you tell me about what happened to my dad?
no subject
Well........
That certainly wasn't what she had been expecting. She frowns slightly and looks down at the cushion.]
It doesn't exactly come up in conversation. Anyway, I haven't told you a lot about the future.

[Karkat's been letting quite a few things slip recently. Tavros' death, John's lusus, he even hinted at her own death. Well, he told her about her own death, she just refused to believe it. It wasn't going to do her any good.]</small.

Telling you about it was never going to help. It's not the most pleasant thing ever John.
no subject
Didn't I deserve to know? I mean, he's my dad...
no subject
[Not the point Vriska. She shakes her head a little trying to figure out how to put this.]
Jack killed your dad. Rose's Mom too. They were together at the time. I never told you back then because you had more important things to be doing. You couldn't be wasting time looking for your lusus, which is exactly what you were trying to do.

[There's a million and one reasons.]
no subject
...okay. I can accept that. Like I said, I'm not mad at you or anything. To be honest I kind of thought that not wanting to make me sad was part of the reason. But...from now on no more hiding stuff from me, okay? Even if it's something you don't think I'm going to want to hear. Actually, at that point you should especially tell me. I don't like bad news, nobody does, but if I have to hear it, you're one of the few people I would rather hear it from. You know, if I had a choice in the matter. And if that makes any sense at all. I am not really even sure what I'm trying to say here.
no subject
[A sigh and stretching out her legs, glancing at him then away.]
You had to revive Rose's corpse. I'm not sure exactly what happened, because I couldn't see you then. Something was interfering, but I think she tried to take on Jack after...
Right.
She probably tried to take on Jack, after he stabbed you. She probably wasn't aware you'd come back, like I was. Which you would have, 'cause of immortality stuff that you had reached at that point.
no subject
So...let me see if I have this right. Rose and I find our parents dead. Jack just killed them for shit and giggles sake because everyone is dog food in the future, apparently. I do something dumb, get killed, Rose tries to take revenge for it, which ends up getting her killed...but I wasn't actually dead because I have god powers so I come back and I revive her...with my breath?
[Wow that sounds really weird. The future is weird.]
no subject
[Though now, she's not so sure she'd make the same decision. Jealousy be damned, she kinda likes Rose now.]
Breathing life back into her though, is one way of putting it. It's more like kissing. The game gives us two lives, our normal self, and our dream self. Since her dream self was still alive, you could revive her that way.
no subject
...my first kiss is with a dead body?
no subject
That was your first kiss!?
no subject
Yes. That technically was...will be? Hypothetically is? Aughhh! Whatever tense that's supposed to be in, the answer is still yes. I have never kissed a girl before, Rose or otherwise, neither back home nor here and now I feel stupid for bringing that up so let's change the subject and forget that I said anything.
no subject
Well, at least I guess Rose returns your feelings. My first kiss was with a pathetic moron loser who couldn't even kiss me back.
[She makes a face.]
no subject
But I am sorry to hear that yours wasn't so great. That must suck.
no subject
[A slight scowl. Yeah, she's still a little bitter on that subject.]
Don't be a lamey loser like some people I know John.

Hmmmmmmmm?

No John. Not lame or loserly at all.

Thanks, Vriska.
