Well that's the thing John! I can easily name something that's the same color as your eyes. But what if that's not the same color that you're seeing??

No just think about this for a moment. You know how colorblind people don't see in color? They merely see shades of white, grey and black?

Well when they're young, they're told that 'this certain shade of grey' is blue. So they call it blue. But, really, it's grey. Well what if we're all like that, simply without shades of grey? Like...like what if the blue you see is actually more like green? But you don't know it because you've been conditioned since you were young to believe that it's blue.

[The pillow never leaves his face so his cry of anguish is somewhat muffled, luckily. Rose. Rose please.]

John that doesn't answer my question at all.

...why are they called questions? Who decided these words would be the ones to describe everything?

[He lifts the pillow up off of his face and turns his head to look at her, deadpan expression on his face.]

Rose. Is there anything I can say or do that will get you to hold off on this conversation until after we have both had some sleep?

No! [[She thrusts her hand into the air above them, like this will clearly show him that no. He can't.]] I can't stop thinking about things! Why is thinking called thinking? Why do we 'think'? Who decided it'd be spelled t-h-i-n-k? Why did we decide those letters would look that way? Or sound that way? Why? Why did they decide that? Why did the Japanese decide to write their alphabet they way they do? Why did our languages evolve differently? Who decided the meaning of all our words? And I mean all of them?

How do we translate words? Why do we need to translate them? Does 'arigatou' really mean 'thank you' or are we just appropriating the meaning to the closest thing we know? What if it actually means something completely different? Or well not completely different since obviously the sentiments are very similar, but what if it actually translates into something else and we just completely fucked it up?

[John gives a defeated sigh and sits up, doofing Rose in the face with the pillow.]

Hold that thought.

[He takes his glasses from the bedside table, putting them on as he clambers out of bed. He then proceeds to shuffle out of the room without another word. Moments later, the click of a light switch can be heard and judging by the light visible from the doorway, John is in the kitchen.]

[[There's a small 'oof' following that doof, then she sits up and puts the pillow in her lap.]]

John wait! I'm not done!

I'll be right back! Chill, jeez.

[Judging by the sounds that follow next, John has turned on the coffee pot and is working on brewing some of that wonderful caffeinated nectar, fuck how early in the morning it is.]

[[Oh...okay. She sits there. Thinks for a moment. And then gets up to follow.

She walks up behind John and leans on him a little, watching over his shoulder.]]

[John doesn't look back at her, instead opting to keep his eyes on the coffee pot, but he does at least lean back into her a bit.]

So... what brought all this up, hm?

I don't know. [[She shrugs, wrapping her arms around his shoulders next.]] I was just...thinking.

Oh well that's dangerous. Goodness, I thought you would know better than to do something like that! [He rubs an eye, yawning.]

Thinking about anything in particular or... just thinking?

Just...thinking I guess. I just can't stop thinking. Not about anything in particular. Or I guess sometimes it is. Sometimes I'm thinking about things specifically. But my mind has been wandering a lot.

I see. Well when it's not wandering and it's the specific stuff, what is it about?

[He turns his head a little so that he can actually look at her.]

Or is it something you still don't want to talk about?

Um...well.

[[She has three choices here. She can talk about Kanaya, talk about her mom or...try and ignore it and say nothing.]]

[John quirks a brow.]

Pffftt... you really thought I didn't plan on that? [He laughs, drumming his long fingers on the counter while waiting for the last bit of coffee to brew.] I was, of course, going to make the offer once it was done.

[[She smiles, leaning against him a little. And then sneakily grabs his hand in hers to play with those fingers.]]
